What’s/When’s the catch?

I and perhaps many of the co.mments.com users are very pleased with this service. May I ask on the behalf of other curious users: what is the catch? And when will it come?

What do you mean with “catch”? Do you mean, if this will be a pay-for-service in the future?

Yes, Ralph. That’s what I mean.

    I’m glad you like it.

I created co.mments because I needed a better way to track comments, and no one else was doing it. I developed it for myself without any plans to charge for it.

And I plan to keep it that way. No hidden agenda.

I recently opened the co.mments API, so I no longer own your data. You can take it out and use it in other services if you want.

I’m even releasing pieces of the co.mments code as open source (check out my personal blog). I’d like other people to build more services like co.mments.

The service is free, and the data is free. And it will stay that way.

    Assaf,

This is mighty generous of you. You sound like a Linux kinda guy, where everyone helps each other.

Co.mments is very useful for me. Those impulsive comments I make here and there are now tracked magically, and that’s one less thing for me to think about. It is mighty generous of you indeedy. Thanks.

This idea may not be possible at this time, but rather than having to press a bookmarklet, won’t it be cool if somehow the computer/OS/browser/etc could automatically know when we’re adding comments and automatically add it to some list.

    Ozy,

I’m glad you like it, you’re in good company.

    coconut,

That’s another reason to have an API, so it will be easy to write this.

I wonder… How this service differs from http://coComments.com? Any benefits of feature comparison? Thanks!
